This is a great post by Damien Guard – “The Ten Commandments for Developers” although the post is directed mainly at client application developers the basic philosophy behind the post holds true for web dev too.
After some serious prodding from Chris I’ve started looking into the preview release of ASP.NET MVC. Tis’ a steep learning curve as I’m looking into TDD and NHibernate at the same time. But a little gem that’s making the NHibernate experience a little easier is Stephen Bohlen’s excellent series of screencasts – “Summer of NHibernate”.
But you don’t just have to take my word for it, they also come highly recommended by Scott Hanselman.
Here’s a little tip that you’ll probably never need, but the day you do it will save you hours!
We were recently working in at Taylor O’Brien on an absolute screamer for a new client of theirs. We knew in advance that the copy would be changing up to the very last minute. The client is a high profile, high quality brand, it had to absolutely bang on and there was no wiggle room.
I’ve been looking for an online project management app to tighten up operations with a client. I was searching for something that either one of us could host locally but stumbled upon a hosted application, Basecamp.
I have to say I’m very impressed, I’m not a big fan of hosted apps but Basecamp is quick, very simple to pick up and has just the right amount of features all very well…
Arthur C. Clarke, once called "the first dweller in the electronic cottage" passed away today, he was 90. As well as writing inspirational science fiction he also predicted that, at 22,000 miles above the Earth’s surface, communications satellites would sit in geo-stationary orbit, allowing electronic signals to be bounced off them around the globe, effectively ushering in the world we know today.
Probably best know for his collaboration with Kubrick on 2001…
This is a handy little tip for when you are working with table borders in InDesign to hopefully make things just a little less fiddly. When you select the cells you want to work with the border tool appears in the info bar at the top of the page. This tool displays which borders on your selected cells will be affected by the changes you are about to make, any lines that are blue indicate borders that will be affected, any lines that are grey indicate borders that will not.
