I've been looking for an online project management app to tighten up operations with a client. I was searching for something that either one of us could host locally but stumbled upon a hosted application, Basecamp.

I have recently needed to access and work on a remote PC from my Mac but the connection had to go via the net. Microsoft have had a RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) client for the Mac for quite some time (Version 1.0.3) and it works OK but even at the highest possible tweek factor the whole thing was really laggy.

Enter the Beta version of RDC For Mac 2.0, which was working brilliantly on the Beta 2 version, almost non-existent lag, all shiny and leopardised, plenty of new options to play with, it worked a treat.

However, the latest version, (Beta 3 who’d a guessed!), is totally broken for UK keyboard setups. In the remote session the Alt key, once pressed, acted as if it was stuck down, Shift+Arrow would act like delete and other whacky effects.

Well I have finally decided which work to feature in my portfolio section, all I need to do now is create the pages to display them! Considering I tinkered with this site for 6 months before I actually set it live it may take a while - stay tuned :)

Arthur C. Clarke, once called "the first dweller in the electronic cottage" passed away today, he was 90. As well as writing inspirational science fiction he also predicted that, at 22,000 miles above the Earth's surface, communications satellites would sit in geo-stationary orbit, allowing electronic signals to be bounced off them around the globe, effectively ushering in the world we know today.

Well, even a 5.3 magnitude earthquake is a pretty unplesant experience. It struck just before 1am this morning whilst I sat at my desk trying to get some PHP to do what I wanted when everything sort of went jiggly.

People in Newcastle, Yorkshire, London, Manchester, the Midlands and Norfolk and also parts of Wales, felt the tremor. The British Geological Survey have said the epicentre was near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, I wouldn't have liked been there, Stockport is 100 miles away and it was weird enough!

This is a handy little tip for when you are working with table borders in InDesign to hopefully make things just a little less fiddly. When you select the cells you want to work with the border tool appears in the info bar at the top of the page. This tool displays which borders on your selected cells will be affected by the changes you are about to make, any lines that are blue indicate borders that will be affected, any lines that are grey indicate borders that will not.

Scott Hanselman's webcasts (Hanselminutes) is always pretty good but this week he talked to Michio Kaku at the Microsoft Tech Ready Six conference. Michio, a theoretical physicist and futurist, is just an amazing chap, he recently did a 3 part series for the BBC called Visions Of The Future.
